Winter has finally come back round and with it some very frosty nights. Locks often work on small fragile parts of course the locking part of the lock is usually solid and reliable parts but not the springs and cogs that retract the locking points these can be usually much weaker parts of the locking case. If the parts become cold or frozen they can break especially if your door is slightly mis aligned, stiff or difficult to use.
Before the worst of the weather starts it’s important that you make sure your locking system has been well oiled with a PTFE base lubricant and also make sure your locking system operates smoothly and freely.
Your Secure Locksmiths advise never to force your key into the lock or force the key by turning it. The insertion and turning process should be completely smooth. This also applies for locking mechanisms in upvc doors, should you have to lift the handle lever upwards to lock it this must be done so in a smooth operation. If you have any concerns and wish to find out more information on locking points visit www.yoursecurelocksmith.co.uk
Don’t forget to equally as important oil your window mechanisms, once again this should be done with a PTFE based lubricant.
